We have ongoing training to maintain high standards in cutting, styling and colouring hair.
Why did you decide to take on an apprentice?
To maintain the business we need it to grow – and this can only be done if we pass on the knowledge we have of hairdressing to others. A good way to do this is through an apprenticeship.
What duties does the apprentice carry out?
Our apprentice carries out everyday duties as part of their ongoing training, including greeting clients, keeping the salon clean & hygienic, booking clients in for appointments, taking payments, carrying out consultations, shampooing, applying colour, blow drying and styling, as well as keeping up to date with the latest product knowledge.
How has the company benefitted from having an apprentice?
We are able to take on more clients, which is beneficial for revenue and means the company can grow and expand.
To have the support of an apprentice is also beneficial for a busy team to help the salon run as smoothly and successfully as possible.
What support did you receive from the college when setting up the apprenticeship and what support is provided to you and your apprentice during their training?
The college is outstanding in making sure that all paperwork and the training course is put in place. We work together to get the best performance out of the apprentices through regular meetings and updates, and they guide me to make sure the apprentice works to the best of their ability.
What would you say to other employers who are considering taking on an apprentice?
Absolutely the best thing about teaching and training someone is the satisfaction of seeing them develop their skills, become successful and contribute to a great business.
