A Level Law gives an understanding of the role of law in today's society and raises awareness of the rights and responsibilities of individuals.

By learning about legal rules and how and why they apply to real life, A Level Law allows you to develop your analytical ability, decision making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. All these skills are highly sort after at higher education and by employers.

You will cover a range of elements of law including: the nature of law and the English legal system, private law, public law and legal skills.

We want you to be as passionate about the study of law as we are and we want you to succeed in your chosen career.

Please note - when applying for any A level on our website, this submits your application for the full A level programme. You only need to apply for one subject - your other subject choices will be discussed at interview.

To access this course you are required to have:

Five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and Maths
The required QoE score.

During this course you will study the following:

The nature of law and the English legal system
Criminal law
Tort law
Law of Contract (optional unit)
Human Rights (optional unit)

By studying this course you will:

Develop competence in using legal skills during the study of the nature of law, legal issues and the English legal system, and private and public areas of substantive law
Demonstrate the ability to analyse a scenario by identifying the key facts from which legal issues arise
Analyse when formulating a legal argument, legislation by applying the rules and principles of statutory interpretation and analyse case law by applying the doctrine of precedent
In respect of each private and public area of substantive law, to analyse, apply and evaluate the legal rules and principles. The ability to identify and breakdown into constituent parts the relevant legal rules and principles for each area of law and apply those legal principles to a hypothetical scenario
To formulate a reasoned argument to support a particular proposition by reference to the relevant legal rules and principles that support that argument
Construct clear, concise and logical legal arguments which are substantiated by legal authority, using appropriate legal terminology
Construct a persuasive argument including instances where you have recognized that there are no clear legal precedents or conflicting precedents to solve a problem
Analyse and critically evaluate legal issues by identifying different perspectives, being able to support identification of the strongest viewpoint and demonstrating the ability to counter alternative viewpoints

There are three 2 hours exams that consist of a combination of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions.

After you have successfully completed this course you can progress on to higher education, apprenticeships and employment.

Our A Level department offers a wide range of facilities and classrooms to make sure you enjoy your time with us.

All our classrooms have access to WiFi, projectors and computer facilities, meaning you will benefit from the latest developments in ICT to make learning fun and interactive.

In addition, A level learners have exclusive access to an A level Study Centre based in wvSixth at Paget Road with controlled entry. This centre has more than 20 computers with an area designated as a common room and a specific quiet study area. A hot drinks machine is also available for students.
