Are you interested in fashion? Whether you are a fashion beginner or an aspiring designer who would like to update or increase your skills we have classes that can suit all levels of ability.

Led by Becci Baylis of the Fabric Rabbit, the course you will allow complete a portfolio of useful garment construction techniques and also includes learning how to measure and apply those techniques to a commercial pattern.

You will also learn about different fabrics, their uses and properties, and will also start your own garment and apply the techniques learned throughout the sessions.*

The course is accredited by the University of the Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body - a specialist awarding body offering up-to-date qualifications in the creative industries. It is owned by, and based within, University of the Arts London.City of Wolverhampton College is the only college in the Black Country, and one of only a few in the Midlands, to be accredited and offer qualifications from the University of Arts London.

To access this course you are required to have:

  • Level 2 in English
  • Level 1 qualification in art and design or relevant knowledge/experience in this area 

Applications from adults without the necessary qualification but with relevant experience will be considered on an individual basis. 

During this course you will learn:

  • Garment construction techniques including zips, seams, buttonholes, sleeves and hems
  • Garment design
  • Measuring and scale
  • Garment construction

By studying this course you will:

  • Gain skills and knowledge in fashion and textile , small scale garment design and making
  • Explore a variety of materials and resources to develop design techniques
  • Learn how to apply techniques for garment constuction
  • Manipulation of design for purpose
  • Find out how to apply your new skills and creativity to a professional level. This will include budgeting, pricing and developing skills within the creative industry to prosper from your work

This is an assignment based course so there are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout the programme.

The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:

  • Pursue further study in the Art & Design subject area. 

You'll train in our dedicated facilities which include dedicated fashion and textiles room and equipment. Also available on campus are graphics studios, fashion and print making studios together with a range of classrooms and facilities as part of the Creative Arts department including digital recording studios, TV studios and editing suites. All tutors are active within the art and design industry and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to call upon enabling you the best opportunity to progress in your chosen career.
