Water Regulations

This course aims to help plumbers and heating engineers have a better understanding of The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and meet the requirements of WRAS (the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) to which most UK water companies are members. This will demonstrate your competence so you can either join a competent persons' scheme allowing the self-certification of installations, or to notify the local building control department prior to commencing work.

The BPEC Assessments undertaken at our Wellington Rd Campus provide the certification required for engineers to become registered.

There are no formal qualifications for this coursem however you are required to have some knowledge of plumbing and the water industry.

To join a competent person's scheme, you may need a plumbing qualification.

During this course you will study:

  • Legislation surrounding hot and cold water
  • Materials and substances in contact with water
  • Design, installation and commissioning
  • Backflow prevention and preventing cross connection to unwholesome water

By studying this course, you will:

  • Understand the requirements of The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and meet the requirements of WRAS (the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme
  • Identify typical faults associated with the installation or maintenance of hot and cold water systems
  • Understand what backflow prevention is required for each fluid category of water in domestic, commercial and health care settings.

Assessment will consist of a theory examination which is mostly multiple choice and short answer questions. The very comprehensive course starts with intensive training in the twelve modules, followed by the completion of the assessment. Candidates must successfully pass the assessment to gain the BPEC Water Regulations certificate and competency card.
