If you want to develop your DIY skills, or take the first step towards a career in the construction industry this practical course is a great place to start!

You will have the opportunity to develop practical skills in bricklaying as well as health and safety. You will train in our dedicated construction centre at the Wellington Road campus, in Bilston, which is equipped with industry-standard tools and equipment.

Successful completion of the course will enable you to further develop your skills and progress to a Level 1 diploma in bricklaying.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however you will need to:

  • Show a passion and interest in the construction industry
  • Demonstrate a commitment to learning, good attendance and punctuality and attending one evening a week for 10 weeks.
  • Attend an interview with a member of the college's admissions team

During this course you will learn a variety of hands-on skills in the area of Bricklaying including basic techniques for laying blocks and bricks. You will also learn about health and safety whilst working in the construction industry.

Throughout the course you will gain knowledge and understanding of:

  • Basic DIY skills in the area of Bricklaying
  • Health and safety
  • Career pathways in different areas of the construction industry

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Observation of practical tasks
  • Multiple choice test

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to a Level 1 qualification in the following subject:

  • Bricklaying City & Guilds Level 1 diploma

Our construction centre at the Wellington Road campus has fully-equipped, industry-standard workshops with the same tools that you will use on a construction site and you will be taught by tutors who have worked in the industry themselves so you will benefit from their first-hand experience and commitment to supporting you to achieving your qualification.
