If you want to learn the art of studio recording and sequencing, develop your studio techniques and sequencing and compositional skills, then this is the course for you!

The course is ideal for beginners and those who wish to pursue studio engineering or sequencing potential career or hone their skills to prepare for higher levels of study. Classes are taught by experienced, professional tutors who will teach you the skills to build your confidence and develop your ability in basic aspects of studio and sequencing.

The course is accredited by the University of the Arts London Awarding Body (UAL). City of Wolverhampton College is the only college in the Black Country, and one of only a few in the Midlands, to be accredited and offer qualifications from UAL who are a specialist awarding body offering up-to-date qualifications in the creative industries with an emphasis on art, design and communication. It is owned by, and based within, University of the Arts London.

To access this course you are required to:

  • Have Level 2 in English
  • Have Level 1 in music technology or relevant knowledge/experience in this area
  • Demonstrate your confidence in the use of IT - IT Literate essential

Applications from adults without the necessary qualifications but with relevant work/industry experience will be considered on an individual basis.

During this course you will study the following:

  • Introduction to composing and sequencing
  • Introduction to studio recording techniques
  • Introduction to microphone techniques
  • Creative arts research skills and portfolio building

This is an assignment based course so there are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout the programme.

The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:

  • Pursue a career as a sound engineer, sound recordist, technical assistant or freelancer in the industry
  • Progress on to our UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music Technology which is equivalent to GCSEs and can support employment or Level 3 courses at college or university
