Are you passionate about education or interested in teaching and supporting pupils? Are you keen to learn more about how to support small groups of pupils and whole classes? If the answer is 'yes', then this course is right for you! We want you to be as passionate as we are in supporting pupils to enable them to learn to their full potential. The primary role of a teaching assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils learning either in groups or individually, supporting pupils to access the curriculum, ensure they understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress.   They promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem, which play an integral part in pupils well-being, and ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing, safe environment.   Teaching assistants are good role models, act with honesty and integrity, take part in team meetings, contribute to planning and class activities; and promote fundamental British Values through spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and positive behaviours which crucial in contributing to improved pupil progress and development.

Entry Requirements: GCSE English and maths OR Level 2 English and maths AND STLS level 3 A satisfactory reference from a school offering support if employed as a Teaching Assistant at level 3 OR an offer of a placement from a selected school for at least one full day per week if not employed, offering support. Interview with the education team

What will I learn? During this course you will study: Development and wellbeing Curriculum planning, monitoring, delivery and assessment Development of higher level teaching assistant roles Promote positive working relationships Promote positive behaviour in children and young people Support children and young people with special educational needs Working with Individuals and groups undertaking a learning activity

What skills will I gain? By studying this course you will: Develop your understanding of teaching Learn how the curriculum works in your area Develop an appreciation for planning, delivering and assessing innovative lessons Develop your confidence in dealing with behavioural issues in the classroom Improve your communication skills Gain valuable team working and communication skills by taking part in various meetings at school

How will I be assessed? This is an assignment based course so there are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout the programme.

What can I do next? After successfully completing this course you can work as a higher level Teaching Assistant in schools and colleges and pursue a career in education.
