Declan is a carpentry and joinery apprentice at construction firm James Wilkes Ltd and won the Rising Star Award (SME) after being nominated by his employer, who said:

“Declan joined the company, straight from school, in September during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“With no previous interview experience, the directors were impressed that they contacted us, arranged his interview and attended, all on their own, showing great independence and a ‘can do’ attitude right from the beginning.

“He presented well and since joining the company has become a valued team member who fits in with all, and his maturity and easy-to-like personality shines through.

“Declan has been given a mentor, who cannot speak of him highly enough, and has proved himself to be helpful, reliable, trustworthy with great time keeping skills.

“Working under Covid regulations has been restrictive, however he has applied himself to all tasks given with a great attitude and his mature approach to learning both at college and at work, along with his positive, adaptable, ‘can-do’ attitude will ensure that he will have a very successful in his career in the sector.

“We are very happy that Declan is part of the team and will support him through his studies to reach his full potential.”

 Well done Declan!
