Interested in programming but not sure where to start? 

Want to know how software on a computer works or how to put together your own code? 

This short course will introduce you to the basic principles of computer coding, giving you a better understanding of what it involves and enabling you to engage more effectively with your child when they bring projects home! 

Also, if you earn less than £25,000 per year and aged 19 or over, you could study this course for FREE! Take advantage of the new funding and #DoMore with your future.

To access this course you are required to have: 

  • Level 1 in English - this will be assessed at your admissions interview  

During this course you will gain:  

  • A basic understanding of what computer programming and coding is 
  • How to create Python programmes to manipulate data 
  • Learn programming concepts such as 'while' and 'for' loops, and 'of' statements, functions and procedures 

By studying this course you will: 

  Gain an understanding of computer programming and coding  

  • Be able to create programmes using Python 
  • Learn how to review and understand the operation of computer code 
  • Design, implement and test simple applications  

This is an introductory course and so there are no exams.  

Your knowledge and understanding of what you are learning will be continually assessed throughout the course.  

Successful completion of the course will enable you to: 

  • Progress to another IT course offered by the college
