Performing Engineering Operations – Machining C&G Level 2 Diploma Study Mode: Part-time (daytime or evening)   |    Course Level: 2

The Performing Engineering Operations  - Machining Level 2 qualification is ideally suited if you are working as a machinist or assembly operator within the engineering industry and forms part of the intermediate apprenticeship framework.  

It provides an entry level qualification into engineering in which you will learn basic workshop skills, safe working practices and engineering communication, as well as practical skills in machining such as lathes, milling, bench fitting and assembly. 

On completion of the course you will be able to progress to an advanced apprenticeship and a Level 3 qualification.  

There are no formal entry requirements for this course

On this course you will study the following modules:  

  • Working safely in an engineering environment 
  • Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively 
  • Using and communicating technical information 
  • Producing components on a lathe 
  • Producing components on a milling machine   
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques      

By studying this course you will gain: 

  • An introduction to the engineering profession 
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic metal work techniques 
  • Skills in machining techniques 
  • An understanding of the importance of health and safety in the workplace 

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the following ways: 

  • Observation or practical tasks 
  • Written sssessments 
  • Assignments  
  • Research 

Completion of the course will enable you to: 

  • Complete your intermediate apprenticeship 
  • Move to an advanced apprenticeship 
  • Progress to a Level 3 qualification 

We have a state-of-the-art modern engineering workshop equipped with a range of industry-standard lathes, milling machines, pillar drill, bench fitting and CAD suites. This can then progress onto CNC and advanced machining. 

Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of additional activities to enhance your learning such as industry visits, hearing from inspirational speakers and showcasing your talents in competitions such as the prestigious WorldSkills UK competition.
