Engineering (2850) C&G Level 3 Diploma Study Mode: Part-time   |    Course Level: 3

If you work in the engineering industry and want to learn advanced engineering skills as well as gain a recognised qualification, this City & Guilds Diploma is the course for you!  

You will learn advanced techniques in engineering principles. machining, CAD, welding processes and fabrication techniques and procedures. The course covers a range of aspects including tooling, lathes, milling, 2D and 3D CAD, MIG, and sheetmetal work, as well as safe working practices and engineering communication.  

To access this course you are required to have: 

  • Level 2 qualification in Engineering 
  • Appropriate level of maths and English to enable you to produce the required standard of work 

On this course you will study a selection of the following modules:  

  • Working safely in an engineering environment  
  • Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively  
  • Machining by lathe 
  • Machining By milling 
  • CAD 
  • Principles of welding 
  • Producing components using MIG and sheet metal work techniques   

By studying this course you will gain: 

  • Indepth knowledge and understanding of metalworking techniques 
  • Advanced skills in machining techniques 
  • Advanced skills in computer aided design 
  • Advanced skills in fabrication and welding techniques 
  • An understanding of the importance of health and safety in the workplace 

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Online exams 

Successful completion of the course will enable you to:  

  • Gain a engineering apprenticeship 
  • Get a job in the engineering industry 
  • Progress to a Level 4 (higher education) qualification such as a HNC* 

*If you do not have the required standard of maths to enrol on the qualification you will be required to complete the part-time Bridging Maths for Engineering course)  

We have a state-of-the-art modern engineering workshop equipped with a range of industry-standard machine shop with fabrication and welding machines, CNC lasers and press brakes, and 2D and 3D CAD suites. 

Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of additional activities to enhance your learning such as industry visits, hearing from inspirational speakers and showcasing your talents in competitions.
