Engineering (2850) Maintenance C&G Level 3 Diploma Study Mode: Part-time   |    Course Level: 3

The Diploma in Maintenance Engineering Level 3 qualification is ideally suited if you are working in the manufacturing industry and want to further your knowledge and gain a recognised qualification.

You will develop your skills in the use of mechatronic systems and components principles, as well as gain further knowledge of workshop skills, safe working practices and engineering communication.

The two-year course is nationally recognised as the benchmark qualification for maintenance professionals and on completion you will have the skills to enable you to work at technician level in the manufacturing industry or progress to a further engineering qualification.

To access this course you are required to have:

  • Level 2 qualification in engineering 
  • Relevant industry experience 


During the course you will study the following modules:

  • Working safely in an engineering environment 
  • Carrying out engineering activities effectively and efficiently  
  • Using and communicating technical information 
  • Producing maintenance documentation
  • Using, programming and maintaining mechatronic systems and components 
  • Preparing and using industrial systems and components 

By studying this course you will:

  • Further develop your understanding of engineering principles
  • Gain a detailed understanding of technical communication and its application in a manufacturing environment
  • Develop a further appreciation of maintenance procedures in the manufacturing industry
  • Apply theoretical knowledge to solve engineering problems
  • Apply your knowledge to analyse faults and implement solutions in manufacturing processes

Completion of the course will enable you to:

  • Work in the manufacturing industry as a maintenance technician or asset manager
  • Progress to a further engineering qualification -eg Level 3 Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing, Level 3 Diploma in Fabrication and Welding, Level 3 Diploma in Technical Support
  • Progress to a higher education HNC in engineering  -  if you do not have the required level of maths for this qualification you will be required to enrol on the part-time Bridging Maths for Engineering course
