If you have completed your engineering apprentice and want to progress further in your career, are working as an engineering operative and want to improve your skills, or want to move up the career ladder into a supervisory or management role in the industry, an HNC is a great qualification to have.
The HNC is mainly a theory-led classroom-based theory course will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to achieve your ambition or to move on to further study such as an HND or university degree.
To access this course you are required to have:
Level 3 engineering qualification OR
Relevant industry experience with a Level 3 maths qualification*
You will also be required to attend a college interview and assessment
* For students who do not have Level 3 maths, the college offers a part-time Bridging Maths for Engineering course which must be completed prior to acceptance onto the HNC.
During this course you will study the following modules:
Managing a professional engineering project
Electrical and electronic principles
Instrumentation and control systems
Production engineering for manufacture
Electro, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
By studying this course you will:
Develop and apply an understanding of the science, engineering principles and associated technology in the area of electrical and electronic engineering
Understand how the utilisation of electricity in the field of electrical and electronic engineering encompasses a wide range of technical applications within industry, commerce and around the home.
Gain an understanding of fundamental principles and practices within the fields of electrical and electronic engineering
Develop an appreciation of leadership roles in the engineering industry
Learn how to apply theoretical knowledge to solve engineering problems

During the HNC qualification you will benefit from the use of their engineering facilities and learning resources, and will also benefit from facilities at the college's own Higher Education Centre.
Tutors on the course are all qualified engineers - at degree level or above - have extensive experience of working in the industry and throughout the course you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of additional activities to enhance your learning such as industry visits, hearing from inspirational speakers.
