Welding Skills C&G Level 1 Award

If you are new to welding, would like to get some experience before applying for a job or work in another area of engineering and want to develop your practical skills, this short course will give you a basic understanding of either MIG or TIG welding processes and techniques used in the industry. 

The course covers MIG or TIG welding - you will be required to choose one process to study and if you wish to learn about additional processes you will need to enrol on a further course. 

 

There are no specific entry requirements for this course

During the course you will study the following modules:

  • Setting up and closing down procedures of welding equipment
  • Basic welding techniques and joints in your one chosen field
  • Health and safety in a welding workshop

By studying this course you will gain:

  • An understanding of the engineering profession
  • Knowledge of welding processes
  • Skills in welding basic joints
  • Ability to tackle more complex tasks
  • Skills in joining a range of materials
  • An understanding of fault analysis

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Observation or practical tasks
  • Written assessment

Completion of the course will enable you to progress to: 

  • Level 2 qualification in the welding process you have chosen 
  • Level 1 qualification in an additional welding process
