Welding Skills C&G Level 2 Award

The Level 2 Award in Welding Skills is ideally suited if you want to work as a sheet metal or production welding operative, already work in this area and want to improve your skills, or work in another area of the engineering industry and want to learn new skills.  

The course will further your understanding of either TIG or MIG welding processes and develop your skills in welding and complex joining techniques.  

This is a 12 week part-time evening course and covers one of the processes listed above. If you wish to study an additional process you will be required to enrol on an additional course.

 

To access this course you are required to have: 

  • Level 1 qualification in either TIG or MIG welding

As part of the admissions process you will be required to attend an interview with an admissions tutor.

During the course you will study the following modules:

  • Setting up and closing down procedures of welding equipment
  • Intermediate MMA, MIG or TIG welding techniques and joints
  • Health and safety in a welding workshop

By studying this course you will gain:

  • An understanding of the engineering profession
  • Knowledge of welding processes
  • Skills in welding basic joints
  • Ability to tackle more complex tasks
  • Skills in joining a range of materials
  • An understanding of fault analysis

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Observation or practical tasks
  • Written assessment

Completion of the course will enable you to:

  • Gain a job in the industry as a welding operative
  • Pursue an engineering apprenticeship
  • Progress to a Level 3 qualification in welding
