Beauty & Nails City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma Study Mode: Part-time    |    Course Level: 2

If you're interested in the nail and beauty sector, and want an exciting career in the industry this course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to become a fully qualified nail technician with the additional skills of makeup, eye treatments and tanning. It will help you gain the required knowledge and experience to work in a beauty salon, spa and nail bar, to passengers on a cruise ship or even on a self-employed basis.

You will learn a broad range of skills and provide treatments to clients in our fully equipped industry-standard beauty salons.  You will also learn how to deliver first class customer service and promote products to clients, as well as the importance of health and safety in the workplace - all of which will impress future employers and equip you for a dynamic career or the knowledge you need to progression to a higher level of study.

To enhance your learning, you will also get chance to take part in enrichment weeks during which you will be able to learn new techniques, take part in competitions, and complete additional short courses in areas that would be useful to you in the industry, such as hair extensions, ear piercing or eyelash extensions.  

You will also complete 30 hours of work experience in a salon and attend lessons to improve your English and maths (or use the time for directed study if you already have good grades).     

Please note: you will be expected to arrange the work experience placement yourself and will also be required to purchase your own nail and beauty kit, costing approximately £100, and uniform, costing approximately £40 - order forms will be provided before the start of the course.

To access this course you are required to: 

  • Have four or more GCSEs at Grade D/3 or above including maths and/or English
  • Provide a current reference from school/college
  • Undertake a trade test to assess your suitability for the course

Adults without the necessary English or maths qualifications will be required to sit an online BKSB assessment in the relevant subject.

In addition, if you have not achieved a Grade 4 in English and/or maths you will required to attend classes for the relevant subject as part of your course. 

By studying this course you will:

  • Understand how different beauty / nail enhancement treatments work and how they are applied
  • Develop your confidence in dealing with a wide range of clients
  • Improve your communication and customer service skills
  • Gain valuable team working by working as a member of a team in a commercial salon
  • Develop your understanding of health and safety in the industry

You will be continually assessed throughout the programme in the following ways:

  • Observation of practical work
  • Providing services to clietns in a realistic working environment
  • Assignments
  • Online exams to test your knowledge
  • Production of a portfolio of evidence 

The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:

  • Pursue a career in the nail industry
  • Progress to a Level 3 beauty diploma
  • Progress to a Level 3 nail technology qualification
