Study Mode: Full Time Programme Component Course Level: 1

The CACHE Level 1 Diploma in Health, Social Care, Children's and Young People will help you to develop your knowledge and understanding through hands-on learning in a number of interesting areas - including growth and development, food and nutrition and care of children and adults - and you will get the chance to develop your skills further on a short work placement in the local area.

Studying the course will also introduce you to some of the innovative work being done with children and adults.

As part of the course you will get the chance to upgrade your English and maths skills and tutors will also support you if you wish to progress to the next level of study - indeed, past students on this course have progressed to higher levels of study at the college and then moved on to university. And once fully qualified, many of our students have gained employment in the early years' sector in schools and nurseries or adults sector settings such as care facilities or progressed to nursing

To enhance your learning, you will also get the chance to hear presentations from guest speakers working in the sector including early years' professionals, health care professionals and employment agencies.

This is a one year full-time course.

Also, if you earn less than £30,000 per year and aged 19 or over, you could study this course for FREE!

To access this course you are required to have:

Three or more GCSEs at grade 2 (E) or above, including English
An interest in the subject and keenness to study
Good attendance and punctuality

Acceptance on the course is subject to an interview and you will also be required to have a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check.

If you want to progress to the Level 2 qualification you will need to successfully complete this level along with the required level for English and Maths.

By studying this course you will learn how to:

Develop skills to effectively communicate
Be able to plan person centred care plans
Prepare activities which will encourage children and adults to eat healthily
Understand how to provide a safe environment for children and adults
Know how to value children and adults by treating each as an individual
Gain valuable team working and communication skills by taking part in a group activity which would engage children and adults in a variety of activities
Develop your skills in reading, writing & speaking through presentations to fellow students, reading and following instructions, planning and evaluating activities and completing job applications
Develop your maths skills by designing games and activities for children (using number & calculation), organising practical early years activities (using measure, volume & quantity) and keeping children safe (using ratios)

This is an assignment based course and there are no exams. You will be continually assessed throughout the course by your tutors.
For maths and English, depending on your level there will be exams for these aspects of your programme of study.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to:

Progress to the Level 2 CACHE qualification*
Apply for an apprenticeship

*If you want to progress to the Level 2 qualification you will also need to have achieved English and maths at grade 3.

Throughout the course you will be supported by fully qualified teachers who will provide training in early years, as well as observe and assess your performance in each unit, check and mark your work and give you regular feedback. They will also support you to develop a portfolio of work and put together your CV or personal statement.
