Are you keen to learn more about the principles of working with individuals with learning disabilities?

This qualification will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of issues surrounding different types of learning disabilities and how these affect individuals in their daily lives, including safeguarding, positive risk taking and an awareness of the autistic spectrum.

This qualification is suited to anyone currently working, or looking to work, with individuals who have any form of learning disability in order to enhance their knowledge and understanding of personalised care in this context.

On average, the course should only take 16 - 21 weeks to complete

  • The course is funded so there is no cost to you as long as you complete the course
  • You must achieve the set targets and complete the course by the date given on our e-learning platform
  • If you fail to complete the course you will be required to pay £120* and will be required to sign an agreement to this before the start of the course.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

During this course you will study the following modules:

  • Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Introduction to personalisation in social care
  • Principles of positive risk taking for individuals with disabilities
  • Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
  • Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare

By studying this course you will:

  • Develop your understanding of working with individuals with learning disabilities
  • Learn how safeguarding works and why it is important
  • Develop your confidence in dealing with service users with learning disabilities
  • Understand how principles of working with individuals with learning disabilities is applied in the health and social care industry

This is an online assessment-based course and there are no exams. You will be required to complete assessments via an online platform.  Your work will be assessed, and developmental feedback will be given by a tutor with relevant subject area experience.

The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:

  • Pursue a career in health and social care
  • Progress to the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autis or Level 3 Diploma in Adult Social Care
