The aim of this course is to illustrate the skills, knowledge and understanding required to confirm competence in carrying out checks and/or basic maintenance on plant or machinery in the workplace within the relevant sector of industry. 

No formal qualifications are needed but an understanding of equipment and plant is desirable.  

During this course you will learn about:  

  • Always working safely when carrying out checks and/or basic maintenance on plant or machinery
  • Knowing how to comply with relevant health and safety legislation and official guidance when carrying out checks and/or basic maintenance on plant or machinery
  • Following the relevant maintenance schedules for the required work when carrying out checks and/or basic maintenance on plant or machinery
  • Carrying out checks and/or basic maintenance activities within the limits of their personal authority in the specified sequence and agreed time scale
  • Reporting any instances where the maintenance activities cannot be fully met or where there are identified defects outside the planned schedule when carrying out checks and/or basic maintenance on plant or machinery
  • Completing relevant maintenance records accurately and pass them on to the appropriate person when carrying out checks and/or basic maintenance on plant or machinery
  • Disposing of waste materials in accordance with safe working practices and approved procedures when carrying out checks and/or basic maintenance on plant or machinery

By studying this course you will: 

  • Develop your understanding of plant machinery and maintenance for the construction trade at our state-of-the-art skills centre 

This unit must be assessed in a work environment in accordance with the construction skills consolidated assessment strategy for construction and the built environment.  

The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to pursue a career in the construction industry or heavy vehicle maintenance. 

This is a brand-new course for the development and growth in the construction sector. This course will expand your knowledge and allow for career progression.
