Enhance your sporting expertise with the Level 2 diploma!
This qualification will develop your knowledge and understanding of sport and will provide many opportunities to study areas which relate directly to the needs of employers in specific areas of the industry.
You will have the opportunity to showcase your sporting skills, have your performance analysed and receive guidance on how to improve, develop your coaching and performance analysis skills through practical activities and demonstrations, improve your personal fitness and take part in individual and team training sessions.
You will also study elements of sports psychology and the effects that sport has on mental health.
If necessary, you can retake your maths and English GCSEs as part of the course.
To access this course you are required to have:
Five GCSE passes at Grade 3 (D) or above OR
Level 1 Diploma at Merit (equivalent) with Functional Skills English Level 2 OR
Level 2 Coaching at Pass with FUnctional Skills English Level 2
Satisfactory police declaration, DBS check and references
You will also be required to attend an interview with one of the college's admissions tutors.

By studying this course you will:
Develop your understanding on key anatomical structure & function
Learn how to develop training programmes for specific groups
Develop your confidence in dealing with work related issues
Understand how to apply your skills to areas of the industry
Improve your knowledge and understanding within key training principles
Gain valuable team working and communication skills by taking part in events such as the college Olympics
You will also have the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills to make you more employable, including English and maths
A variety of assessment methods are used including individual and group presentations, case studies,
role-plays, question and answer, producing display materials, time constrained assessments, work-based assignments and assessment.
This will allow you to develop skills you currently possess and work on new skills that will help you progress, it will also allow you to build a portfolio of evidence and complete other workpacks that are required for you to gain the qualifications in this programme.
The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:
Progress directly onto the Extended Diploma as a year 2 option and then gain a place of study on our HNC Sport programme
Pursue a career as a sports scientist, sports coach, sports development officer, sports psychologist, PE teacher or leisure manager
We have outstanding success rates on this course and excellent feedback from our past students. In fact, some of our past students have gone on to become sports coaches, personal trainers, sports development officers, teachers, physiotherapists and many more skilled jobs in sport. You will be working within our excellent facilities in order to develop your skills and knowledge in sport.
While you are on this course you will get to visit St Georges Park, leading fitness centres, fitness events across the West Midlands, the Employer Roadshow and Active College events.
We also have guest speakers who we invite into college to enhance your learning. These have included Darren Garwood, Matt Murray and Dave Heeley.
