If you to work with children and young people - or already have a role working with these age groups - this qualification will improve your knowledge and awareness of mental health.
The qualification will look good on your CV when applying for jobs and will be valuable when working in a range of roles in the education or health and social care sectors.
To access this course you are required to demonstrate that you are working at Level 1 in English and maths.
Whilst a placement in a relevant setting is not a requirement of the course, you are advised to source a placement as part of your personal development and to prepare you to progress to a Level 2 qualification.
During the course you will gain knowledge and understanding of:
• Children and young people's mental health in context
• Factors which may affect children and young people's mental health
• Children and young people's mental health concerns
• Impact of children and young people's mental health concerns
• How to support children and young people with mental health concerns
Throughout the course you will gain skills in:
● Communication
● Using ICT to research and complete assignments using a virtual learning platform
● Reflection, planning and prioritising
● Working within a team
This is an assessment-based course and there are no exams.
You will be continually assessed throughout the course in the following ways:
Successful completion of the programme will enable you to progress to a level 3 qualification such as:
• Understanding Mental Health Level 3 Certificate
• Awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 Level 3 Award
• Children and Young People's Workforce (England) Level 3 Diploma
• Teaching Assistant Level 2 Certificate
The course is flexible and is delivered through a blended learning approach by experienced staff who have worked within the health and social care sector.
