Construction Site Supervisor Apprenticeship Level 4 Study Mode: Apprenticeship   |    Course Level: 4

Construction site supervisors are associated with the supervision of specialist contractors and workers on construction projects and are based on construction sites with occasional time in offices.

The main duties and tasks of an employee in the role are:

  • Supervision of specialist contractors
  • Control of health and safety standards on construction projects
  • Recording, control and reporting of progress on a construction project
  • Minimisation of the environmental impact of construction projects
  • Control of quality of works on a construction project
  • Assisting commercial staff with the monitoring of costs on a construction project

Typical job titles can include assistant site manager, assistant supervisor or construction site supervisor. In SME construction companies, the roles are likely to include site manager or site supervisor.

Entry requirements will be determined by individual employers, however the typical entry requirements are five GCSEs or equivalent - including English, maths and a science - or a Level 2 apprenticeship.

KNOWLEDGE

Apprentices will develop knowledge and understanding of:

Health and Safety: Risk assessment of activities and the importance of behaviours in safety-critical environments.

Sustainability: Sustainability issues in projects across economic, social and environmental aspects.

Construction Technology: Different construction methods and materials.

Construction Management: Management principles and the project management lifecycle.

Planning and Organising Work: Importance of project planning and resourcing and be able to analyse different techniques.

Monitoring Quality: Able to define the quality required on a finished construction project.

Monitoring Costs: Importance of cost control on a construction project

 

SKILLS

Apprentices will develop skills in:

Health and Safety: Identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours.

Sustainability: Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects.

Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.

Project Management: Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.

Planning and Organising Work: Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan.

Monitoring Quality: Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects.

Monitoring Costs: Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget.

A qualified assessor will provide an induction and regular workplace assessments

Completion of the programme will enable progression to full-time employment as a site supervisor in the construction industry.
