Journalism Apprenticeships

If you want to be at the forefront of delivering news, a journalism apprentice is the way to get into the industry and start climbing the career ladder.

Whether you want to be a print journalist on a local or national newspaper, deliver news on the radio or TV, or work in a PR and corporate communications role for a large organisation, an apprenticeship will enable you to develop the skills you need for your chosen specialist area.

Throughout your training you will combine working for an employer with studying at college for the industry-recognised NCTJ diploma in journalism.

In the workplace you will learn on-the-job by working alongside experienced journalists, whilst at college you will be trained by tutors who have worked in the industry themselves and will learn about media law, public affairs, court reporting and ethics, as well as learning shorthand.

Throughout your training you’ll be supported by a college assessor who will visit you in the workplace to make sure you are meeting your targets and that both you and your employer are getting the most out of your apprenticeship.

We have excellent relationships with employers from a range of local and national media organisations and develop training to meet the fast changing developments in the industry, so you can be assured you’ll gain the skills that they are looking for in their employees – and, if you impress them during your training, you may even be offered a job when you’ve completed apprenticeship and gained your qualification.

And, did you know that apprenticeships aren’t just for new staff? if you’re already employed in the industry and want to improve your skills and boost your promotion prospects you can benefit from apprenticeship training too – just ask your employer to email employerenquiries@wolvcoll.ac.uk and a member of the team will contact them to discuss your training further.

Apprenticeship vacancies are being added to our website all the time – take a look at the latest opportunities here
