About our guest speaker:
Rune Todnem By
Rune Todnem By is a highly respected academic and practitioner in the fields of leadership and organisational change, with a distinguished career spanning academia, research, and practical leadership development. He holds a Bachelor with Honours and Master’s from the University of Wolverhampton, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Leadership from the University of Staffordshire. Following 15 years in British academia he returned to Norway in 2019.
Rune currently serves as a Professor of Leadership at the University of Stavanger in Norway, where he also holds the prestigious position of Chair holder for the UNESCO Chair on Leadership, Innovation, and Anticipation. As part of this role, he is heading up the unique MTI Master’s of Transformation & Innovation, Norway’s first leadership development master’s programme based on design thinking and purpose-based leadership. His expertise is centred on leadership dynamics, organisational change, design thinking, and innovation, and he is recognized for his ability to anticipate and shape future trends in leadership practice.
As the previous Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Change Management: Reframing Leadership and Organizational Practice (2008-2024), Rune has contributed significantly to the evolution of leadership and organisational change theory and its application in the modern organisational context. He is also a Leadership Designer, focusing on creating impactful leadership development programs tailored to contemporary challenges.
Rune co-founded the Public Leadership Foundation (PLF) in the Netherlands, and served as its Chair, further cementing his commitment to advancing leadership practices in the public sector. His work in leadership is also reflected in his role as a TEDx speaker, where he shares his insights on leadership, innovation, and the future of organisational practices.
