First Steps into Cleaning

First steps into cleaning is one of our free courses designed to help you get into employment by developing the skills and knowledge needed to work in this sector.

This course has been designed with local employers so you can be sure you will be gaining the qualities they will be looking for when recruiting new staff.

Whether you are looking for work, want to start your own business, or want to improve your employment prospects, this course can help you develop the skills you need to work in this sector.

What will I learn?

The course includes a range of units to enable you to gain skills and knowledge related to the specific sector you want to work in, such as:


  • Knowledge of the cleaning industry
  • COSHH training (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)
  • Health and Safety awareness
  • Manual Handling
  • Risk Assessments


In addition, you will also be supported to:

  • Develop key employability skills, such as communication, teamwork and problem solving
  • Improve your digital and IT skills
  • Produce a CV and apply for jobs
  • Prepare for an interview
  • Given links for current vacancies
Eligibility
  • Aged 19+
  • In receipt of benefits*
  • Interested in work as a cleaner
  • Have photo ID, Residency status, a recent pay slip, or benefits evidence

*If you are in receipt if work related benefits, speak to you work coach at the Job Centre, referencing JCP Wolverhampton Hub

Travel expenses can be paid to those on JCP benefits via the Job Centre – subject to availability.
