Former carer April Wolverson came to college as a mature student as she wanted a new career – and she signed up for not one, but two courses!
April, aged 30,who is studying part-time for Level 2 diplomas in beauty therapy and nail technology, said: “The hours are really good – the beauty course is two days a week and the nail course is just a couple of hours a week – so it’s easy for me to get childcare.
“I’m learning how to do waxing, tanning, eye treatments, manicures and pedicures on the beauty course, as well as how to do acrylic nails on the nail course.
“The tutors are so supportive – they’ve given me lots of information and options to think about for my future career, from working in a salon or opening my own business to even becoming a tutor.
“In fact, I’m currently in the process of converting my garage into a salon – it’s a work in progress but, hopefully this time next year, I’ll be able to open and run my own business from home.”
