Currently in her first year of Level 3 Health and Social Care, Harlie Nicholls, 18, is passionate about making a difference in people’s lives and is gaining invaluable experience through her studies and work experience at City of Wolverhampton College.
Harlie said: “I love the course and have learned so much, including infection prevention and control. It has helped me grow in confidence, believe in my abilities, and take pride in my work.
“As part of the course, I undertook a work placement at The Good Shepherd, a local organisation that supports people in need. This experience has been incredible, giving me real insight into working in a caring environment and allowing me to apply my learning in a practical setting. Volunteering has opened my eyes to new opportunities, and the welcoming staff make me feel valued. Helping others has been truly rewarding, and I now appreciate how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
“After completing my work placement, I was accepted onto The Good Shepherd’s LEAP program, a 12-15 month scheme providing hands-on experience across various roles. This scheme is broadening my career outlook and giving me valuable experiences that I’ll look back on with pride.
“I hope to build the confidence and skills needed to pursue a career as a social worker or probation officer. My course and volunteering experience are giving me invaluable hands-on learning and preparing me for a variety of work environments.
“I would highly recommend this course to others because Health and Social Care opens doors to so many career opportunities—it’s not limited to one path but offers a wide range of possibilities within the sector.”
