“I didn’t want to go to university and was attracted to an apprenticeship because I could earn money at the same time as gaining work experience and doing a qualification that will be useful in the future,” says 19-year-old Jack Haden, an apprentice IT infrastructure technician in the e-services department at City of Wolverhampton Council.
Jack added: “The way you learn on an apprenticeship is completely different to how you learn at school as you are expected to be more independent and take responsibility for tasks set by your employer.
“If you want to work in the IT industry I’d definitely recommend an apprenticeship as you get the chance to use your knowledge and skills in the workplace and learn by experience rather than just sit in a classroom every day.”
