STUDENTS SPRUCE-UP ACTIVITIES CENTRE

15th May 2019

An outdoor education centre in Albrighton has been given a spring spruce-up by students from City of Wolverhampton College.

Students doing qualifications in uniformed public services and travel and tourism spent three days on work experience at the Kingswood Trust in Albrighton and completed a range of outdoor tasks including gardening, painting and building maintenance.

The group of 60 worked in teams, supported by college staff and military mentors from 4 MERCIAN, to clear brambles, maintain brash fencing and re-stain benches, animal hutches and shelters, including a suspended parachute platform.

Luca Gugliemo, aged 17, who is studying for the Level 3 diploma in public services and will be joining the army after he completes his qualification, said: “I went to Kingswood when I was at school so it was great to go back and have the opportunity to do something that will benefit the young people who use the centre today.”

The work experience programme – known as Exercise Eagle Learner – is now in is its fourth year and is organised by the college, in conjunction with 4 MERCIAN, to give students the chance to develop team work, time management and organisational skills by supporting community projects across the local area.
