Frequently asked questions

When will the new CLQ campus be completed?

The construction of the new CLQ campus is due to be completed in September 2025. 

 

It will then take approximately six weeks to install IT systems, fit out classrooms, equip learning spaces and transfer relevant equipment and resources from the Paget Road and Wellington Road campuses to the new site.  

When will the new CLQ campus open to students?

The new CLQ campus is currently scheduled to open to students after the October half-term break. 

 

You will be notified of the actual opening date nearer the time. 

How do I know if my course will be transferring to the new CLQ campus?

All courses that are currently delivered at the Paget Road campus, in Compton, will move to the new CLQ campus. 

 

In addition, some courses currently delivered at the Wellington Road campus, in Bilston, will also move to the new CLQ campus. 

Which subjects will be taught at the new CLQ campus?

The following subjects will be taught at the new CLQ campus: 

 

  • A Levels 
  • Access to HE  
  • Business and Computing 
  • Catering and Hospitality*  
  • Creative and Digital Media 
  • Employability  
  • ESOL 
  • Hair and Beauty 
  • Health and Social Care** 
  • Performing Arts 
  • Science 

*Bakery courses will continue to be delivered at the Wellington Road campus 

**Counselling qualifications will continue to be delivered at the Wellington Road campus  

 

Where will I start my course in September 2025?

If you are enrolled for a course that will ultimately be delivered at the new CLQ campus you will start the 2025/26 academic year at the campus where the subject is currently delivered - ie. Paget Road or Wellington Road. 

 

You will study there until October half-term and transfer to the new campus after the break - you will be notified of the actual date nearer the time. 


Will I have to move campus midway through my course?

If you are enrolled for a course that will ultimately be delivered at the new CLQ campus you will start the 2025/26 academic year at the campus where the subject is currently delivered - ie. Paget Road or Wellington Road. 

 

You will study there until October half-term and transfer to the new campus after the break - you will be notified of the actual date nearer the time. 

I am in the first year of a two-year course at the Paget Road campus - will I be able to stay at Paget Road for my second year?

When the new CLQ campus opens the Paget Road campus will close, so you will continue your studies at the new site.  

How will I get to the new CLQ campus?

The new CLQ campus is in the centre of Wolverhampton with excellent links to bus, Metro and train services, as well as local cycleways. 

Will there be parking for students at the new CLQ campus?

The college is currently exploring options for both staff and students, which includes negotiating a preferential rate with commercial car parks near to the new campus.  

 

The city centre also makes it very accessible by bus, train, Metro and bicycle.   

The new CLQ campus is much further away from home than the campus I go to now - will I be able to start my lessons later?

When you course transfers to the new CLQ campus you will be expected to be on-site for the start of your lessons as indicated on your timetable. 

I can walk to the campus I'm currently studying at but will need to get a bus to get to the new CLQ campus - will I be able to get help with bus fares?

 Depending on your household income and the course you’re studying, you may be entitled to financial support to help with travel and other college costs.  

What facilities will be at the new campus?

The new campus will be equipped with a range of state-of-the-art facilities including hair and beauty training rooms, mock-up hospital ward, professional kitchen and science laboratories, as well as music editing suites, performing arts theatre, rehearsal and recording studios, and visual arts spaces. 

Will any parts of the campus be open to the public?

Members of the public will be able to book appointments at the commercial New Era hair and beauty salons, as well as find out about training courses to boost their employment prospects and get support with searching for and applying for jobs in the Careers and Skills Hub. 

Will the new campus be safe for students?

The new CLQ campus is intended to be ‘safe by design’ and consultation with West Midlands Police took place during the early design stages to ensure proportionate security measures are taken.  

 

All staff and students will be expected to swipe through airport-style speed gates using their ID badge, a system that is already in operation at the Wellington Road campus.  

 

In addition, CCTV and access control systems will also be installed in the new building
