Callum Wilkes – construction

As part of the Level 3 diploma in construction and the built environment, 17-year-old Callum Wilkes has had the chance to do a work experience placement with Interclass Ltd – the company that has the contract to build the new £1.93m extension to the college’s construction centre at the Wellington Road campus.

Callum, who wants to be an architect in the future, said: “I’ve been shadowing the site manager to see what he does on a day-to-day basis and have found out about the programmes and systems he uses in his job.

“I will be able to put this experience on my CV and, if I go into a site manager role in the future, I will be able to use what I’ve learnt this week – I’d definitely recommend work experience!”
