Organising a fundraising event as part of the Level 3 foundation diploma in business put the skills 17-year-old Elliot Devlin is learning on is course to the test.

Elliot, who progressed to the Level 3 qualification after gaining a Level 2 extended certificate in business last year, took the lead in organising a cultural awareness day as part of the event management module of his course.

Elliot said: “I really enjoyed organising the event. I led a team of 17 students, arranged meetings to discuss what we were going to do and gave different roles to different people to make sure that everything we needed to do got done on time.”

After completing the foundation diploma, Elliot is planning to progress to the Level 3 extended diploma and then go to university to study business and psychology – but, after completing work experience in the college’s Student Hub as part of his course, his tutor asked him if he wanted to continue with his plans as the manager of the department he’d worked in said that she would offer him a job!
