Lynsey, aged 42, said: “As part of the Level 2 course I worked in the Academy salon on a Saturday and got to know the tutors and assessors well. I must have impressed them as when a vacancy for a graduate stylist became available I applied for the position as was offered the job.
“It felt great to know that I’d been picked out of all of the other applicants and to finally be working in the industry after I’d dreamt about it for so long.
“Making the transition from student to member of qualified staff was a bit daunting at first but all of the team in the salon have been very supportive, and I can inspire current students when they find out that not long ago I was learning like them but am now a qualified stylist.
“I’ve shown that it’s never too late to get into the career you’ve always wanted – you make your own chapters in life and, for me, this is the start of a new chapter and I’m looking forward to seeing where my career goes from here.”
