Tyler Elston – business apprentice

“Ive always been interested in working in the property market, so an apprenticeship at an estate agent’s is ideal for me!” said 20-year-old Tyler Elston who is a business apprentice in the lettings department at Berriman Eaton in Tettenhall.

Tyler added: “After doing my A Levels I wanted to carry on learning but knew I didn’t want to go to university, so an apprenticeship was the ideal route as it means I can gain experience in the workplace and get a recognised qualification at the same time.

“I am learning how the business runs and the different aspects of being a lettings agent – such as answering enquiries from clients, working with online property platforms, dealing with queries from tenants, liaising with landlords and booking contractors to carry out maintenance work in properties.

l am also studying for the Level 3 diploma in business administration through the college and am set assignments and tasks by an assessor with whom I have monthly meetings to check on my progress and that I am completing the tasks I have been set.  Ordinarily my assessor would visit me in the workplace, however due to the current Covid restrictions we do the sessions online instead.

“I am very motivated and happy to get on with what I’m asked to do, however my assessor is always there if I need clarification on anything I’ve been asked to do and Ive already submitted one piece of work which will count towards the end point assessment which I will have to pass before I can complete my apprenticeship.

“I’m gaining a lot of practical experience and am meeting all the targets set by my employer – and when Ive finished my apprenticeship I want to stay in the industry and progress to doing my professional qualifications and become either a lettings agent or sales negotiator.”
