Alex Hodgkiss

Course: Access to HE (Health Professions)

Alex Hodgkiss studied the Access to HE Health Professions course at City of Wolverhampton College between 2024 and 2025. The one‑year intensive programme, which combines Health, Psychology and Biology, helped him find a new direction and prepare for university-level study. Alex said:

“I chose this course as I wanted to try something I would enjoy, but that would also lead to a stable career. Health Professions felt like the right balance between passion and practicality.

“As well as learning about the health sector, The Access to HE course also taught me how to write academically, how to type efficiently, reference properly, manage my time and organise my work. I have continued to build upon these skills and am now studying Biomedical Science at the University of Roehampton. In the future, I hope to go into a form of psychology or psychiatry.

“If someone is thinking about this type of course, I’d say take your time and make sure it’s right for you as you have to put the time and effort in. Make sure it’s something you feel connected to. If it is, it’s absolutely worth it.”
