Freddie Davies completed the CITB Health & Safety Awareness course at City of Wolverhampton College, delivered at the Telford campus. With a background in air conditioning, he is now pursuing his ambition of becoming a professional boxer while maintaining flexible work opportunities in construction.
“I’ve worked in air conditioning for a number of years, but I’ve always had a strong passion for boxing. Recently, after being made redundant, I decided to fully commit to pursuing it professionally. Because of that, it’s important for me to have flexible work that fits around my training and fight schedule.”
“I chose to complete the CITB Health and Safety course so I could continue to work on construction sites when needed. It’s a legal requirement for site access, so having that qualification gives me the option to earn while focusing on boxing. I’d heard great things about the college from friends, and I was made to feel really welcome from the start. The facilities and teaching were excellent.
“The course has really benefited me because I can now pick and choose when I work, fitting it around my training. My lecturer was great and made sure I understood everything—I even achieved 100% in the final exam.
“To anyone thinking about taking this course, I’d definitely recommend it. It’s essential for anyone wanting to work on a construction site, and the college delivers it really well. It’s a great way to gain a key qualification while keeping your options open for the future.”
