Heather Gee first joined City of Wolverhampton College in 2023 through a Health and Social Care employability programme, where she developed her skills and successfully secured a role as a Healthcare Assistant with the NHS. Keen to build her confidence in maths and progress her career, she went on to complete the college’s Skill Up and Skills for Success programmes. Heather said: 

“Before joining the programme, I struggled with maths and didn’t have the qualification needed to progress in my current role. Completing Skill Up and Skills for Success has helped me build my confidence and develop my maths skills to the point where I now feel ready to start Functional Skills Maths Level 1. 

“I enjoyed the group sessions and the one-to-one support and the course has definitely helped me progress. It showed me that I can continue to improve and achieve more than I thought I could. 

“I would recommend this course to others. If your maths or English skills need improving, it’s a great stepping stone towards GCSEs or higher-level courses.”
