James Davison, 35, enrolled at City of Wolverhampton College to explore a career in education and gain a better understanding of working within schools. Since completing his courses, he has continued his studies and is now working as a Student Digital Champion alongside undertaking further qualifications.
“I chose these courses because I want to work in education but had no previous experience in the sector. I wanted to build my knowledge and understand what working in schools involves. As a parent of four children, I also felt the courses would help me better support my own family.
“The courses gave me a much better understanding of education and confirmed that this is the career path I want to pursue. They’ve also helped me in my day-to-day life and interactions with my children.
“When I first returned to education, I was quite anxious as it had been more than seven years since I graduated from university. However, the staff were incredibly welcoming, supportive and understanding, which helped build my confidence.
“One of the best parts of studying was the classroom discussions. Everyone was encouraged to share their ideas and experiences, creating a friendly and supportive learning environment.
“I enjoyed my experience so much that I’ve enrolled on two further courses, Level 2 Counselling and Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning, and I’m also working with the college as a Student Digital Champion.
“My goal is to continue developing my skills and work towards a career in education, helping and supporting future learners.
“To any adult thinking about returning to education, I’d say go for it. It can feel daunting at first, but it’s absolutely worth it. The support at City of Wolverhampton College has been fantastic, and it’s been a great place to learn and grow in confidence.”
