Kelly Silva joined the ESOL Digital Skills course at City of Wolverhampton College to improve her English language skills and build her confidence using technology. With a background in customer-facing roles and ambitions to return to working as a caregiver for the elderly, Kelly has embraced the opportunity to develop skills that will support her future career.
“I wanted to improve my English before returning to work as a caregiver. I’ve always enjoyed working with people and helping others, so developing my communication skills is really important to me.
“I’ve worked as a receptionist in the past, which required digital skills, and this course has helped me become much more confident using technology. I now feel more comfortable using digital tools and applying these skills in everyday situations.”
Throughout the course, Kelly developed her confidence using Microsoft Office software, digital communication tools and online systems, while also learning about online safety and workplace skills.
“I really enjoy attending the course and improving my English. In fact, I wish there were more college days!
“The course and location have never been a challenge for me, and even if you do have to miss a session because of personal commitments, it’s easy to catch up on what you’ve missed.
“I like everything about the college. The classes, the teachers and the environment are all pleasant, and everyone is very supportive.”
Kelly would encourage others thinking about improving their digital skills to take the first step and enrol.
“This course is a great opportunity to build confidence, improve your skills and prepare for future study or work. I would definitely recommend it to others.”
