Shakhawan Abdalla joined City of Wolverhampton College to improve his English skills and work towards returning to his previous career as a builder. Since starting his studies, he has made excellent progress, progressing from Pre-Entry ESOL classes in September 2025 and moving on to Entry Level 2 in September 2026. Shakhawan said:
“Since starting at the college, I have developed my speaking, listening and writing skills and have gained recognition for my achievements across all three areas.
“The support I have received has been excellent. My tutor is good and friendly and understands the needs of learners, which has helped me feel confident in class and continue improving.
“I am proud of how much my skills have developed. I now enjoy practising my English outside of the classroom and even write stories at home.
“I would encourage anyone wanting to improve their English to take the first step and join a course. The support is there, and with hard work and determination, you can make great progress.”
