FORMER APPRENTICE INSPIRES NEXT GENERATION OF INDUSTRY TECHNICIANS

A former apprentice in the automotive sector is inspiring the next generation of industry technicians after taking up a new post at City of Wolverhampton College.

Nick Lewis has been appointed as manager of the college’s automotive and engineering department and will oversee its full-time and part-time vocational qualifications, as well as apprenticeship opportunities within the sector.

He has 26 years’ experience in the automotive engineering industry – having started his career as an apprentice in a garage, aged 16 –  and prior to joining the college was operations manager for a training provider with responsibility for managing trade apprenticeships.

Nick said: “The college already has a well-established automotive and engineering department and I am looking forward to developing it further and to working with students, apprentices and employers to establish more high-quality apprenticeship and work experience opportunities within the sector.

“As a former apprentice I know what it’s like to start out in the industry and will be using my experience to inspire the next generation of technicians to go on to successful future careers.”
