Apprentices must be employed in a suitable salon before they start the qualification

What will I learn?

• Professional standards, industry ethics, appearance expectations and time management.
• How to communicate professionally, greet clients, maintain rapport and provide customer care.
• Legal and safe working practices including hygiene, sterilisation, PPE and environmental sustainability.
• How to conduct effective consultations, tests and assess hair, skin and scalp conditions.
• The effects of shampoos, conditioners and treatments on the hair and scalp.
• Cutting principles including angles, weight distribution and creating varied styles.
• Styling and finishing techniques for different looks using tools, products and equipment.
• Colour and lightening principles including pigment, product selection and hair structure impact.
• Optional knowledge: perming, relaxing or hair extension theory and methods.

How will I be assessed?

Once all on-programme assessments are complete, along with English and maths functional skills, learners will be able to go through the gateway and prepare for end point assessment. This is a six-hour practical assessment along with oral questions assessed by an independent assessor.
