If you’ve successfully completed a Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery qualification, this course will help you develop your skills and knowledge to an industry-recognised standard. Through a combination of practical workshop sessions and theory-based learning, you’ll build on your existing experience and gain confidence in a range of carpentry and joinery techniques.
You’ll develop a deeper understanding of construction technology, communication, measurement, and industry working practices, while continuing to refine your practical skills using professional tools and equipment. The course is designed to prepare you for progression to a Level 3 qualification, an apprenticeship, or employment within the construction industry.
Construction Diplomas are nationally recognised craft qualifications that are respected by employers across the sector and can support your progression towards gaining a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

To access this course, you are required to:
- Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery
- You will be expected to maintain good attendance and punctuality, as well as show commitment, a positive attitude to learning, and determination to achieve the qualification.
Applications from adults without the necessary qualifications, but with relevant industry/work experience, will be considered on an individual basis.
For internal progression learners (already studying with us):
Learners must be able to demonstrate that they:
- Have successfully completed a relevant course that naturally progresses onto this programme, achieving a good standard
- Have improved their English and maths grades since enrolment
- Have maintained good attendance and punctuality
- Show a consistently positive attitude to learning
What will I learn?
During this course you will study the following modules:
- Maintenance to non-structural work
- Understanding quantities and and communication with others
- Understanding construction technology
- First fix operations
- Second fix operations
- Structural carcassing operations
What skills will I gain?
By studying this course you will:
- Learn about carpentry and joinery techniques in practical and theory sessions
- Find out about health and safety on construction sites and how important it is to work effectively with others
- Learn about various techniques and carpentry and joinery skills
- Develop your communication and team working skills
- Improve your numeracy and literacy skills to prepare you for a life in construction
How will I be assessed?
Your progress will be continually assessed and you will be provided with detailed feedback in order to help you to develop your skills. Your progress will be evaluated through a combination of practical assessments, job related multiple choice assessments at the end of each unit and external tests that are on-line computer based examinations To gain the diploma you must be successful in achieving all units and passing the synoptic practical test.
