Entry Requirements:

There are no pre-requisites for this course but a reasonable command of the English language would be required. Prospective students will also be required to undertake a short telephone interview with the course tutor to check their current job role is suitable for the course and completion of the portfolio.

What will I learn?

Units covered by the course:
· Ensure your own actions reduce risk to Health and Safety
· Develop procedures to control risks to Health & Safety
. Monitor procedures to control work operations
. Promote a Health and Safety Culture within the workplace
. Conduct an assessment of risk in the workplace

What skills will I gain?

  • Develop your understanding of how your actions and responsibilities contribute to Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence
  • Learn how to identify and define hazards and risks, how to produce risk assessments and risk control
  • Learn how to develop and implement effective communication systems
  • Understand how to improve the safety performance in your workplace and how Health and Safety plays an active part in protecting the environment
  • Understand how to maintain knowledge and improvements of Health and Safety Practice

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is in the form of continual informal assessment throughout the two workshop days followed by a formal assessment in the workplace. Learners will be expected to build a portfolio of evidence throughout the duration of the course.

What can I do next?

After successful completion of this course, you could progress to complete the Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice
