“You can only learn so much in school – and I wanted to know more,” says 20-year-old Toby Adshead, an apprentice infrastructure technician in the e-services department at City of Wolverhampton Council.

Toby, who is responsible for the IT systems of three primary schools in the city and attends college one day-per-week to study for a Level 3 diploma in IT, added:  “An apprenticeship is a practical way of learning and means you can use your knowledge in a working environment and gain skills that will lead to a permanent job in the future.

“Doing the course at college has widened my IT knowledge and so when I’m talking to school staff about their requirements I’m confident that I know what I’m talking about and can provide them with the level of support they need.”
