Accord is one of the largest housing and social care organisations in the Midlands, providing 13,000 affordable homes and health and social care to 80,000 people and employing nearly 4,000 staff. 

Why did you decide to take on an apprentice? 

Accord is looking to invest locally into the skills and people in the region, to develop and grow a future workforce that has the right skills and knowledge in world of housing and care. 

How many apprenticeships does the company offer?  

Accord offers 13 apprenticeship programmes  – from construction, business support, HR, finance, leadership and management to care & support. 

How has the company benefitted from having an apprentice? 

It is a great opportunity to nurture, grow and mould apprentices into the world of Accord and the future skills that are required in the organisation. 

What support did you receive from the college when setting up the apprenticeship and what support is provided to you and your apprentice during their training? 

Accord works very closely with the account managers, programme assessors and head of programmes to ensure quality teaching is delivered to apprentices and the right courses are suitable for what is required at Accord. There is always continuous communication regarding progress and performance. 

What would you say to other employers who are considering taking on an apprentice? 

The return on investment is immerse!  

It’s a tripartite relationship which requires good support, understanding and commitment from all people involved.
