Doing the Level 3 diploma in IT has led to 17-year-old Ben Smith being offered an apprenticeship in the college’s own IT department, before he’s even finished his course!

Ben said: “At secondary school IT was the lesson I looked forward to and as computing is the way forward I decided to develop skills that people need.

“The course covers web design, project management technical support, installing software, repairing hardware and keeping systems up-to-date, and when the college advertised for an IT apprentice I put myself forward straight away.

“It’s was the first interview I’d ever had and when I had the phone call to offer me the job I was really happy!

“Because I’m a student here I know how the college operates and that it’ll be a good place to work – as part of the IT team I’ll be responsible for network maintenance, managing systems, data management, and technical support, and will also be able to complete my qualification as part of my apprenticeship – I’m really looking forward to it.”
