Early Years student Chloe Salter-Wing

Twenty-year-old Chloe Salter-Wing has been at the college for the past four years and has progressed from the Level 1 diploma in caring for children, through the Level 2 certificate in childcare (introduction to early years educator) and is now in the final year of the two-year Level 3 certificate in child care and education (early years educator).

Chloe said: “I’ve always wanted to work with children and, even though teachers at my school knew this, they were unable to offer me the right combination of A Levels so I decided to come to college instead.

“I’ve learnt so much about child development and legislation over the last four years, as well as how to be organised and prepared for every day in the workplace.

“When I’m on my work experience placements I feel comfortable working alongside staff and parents as I can use what I’ve learnt in the classroom in a practical way, and I can also use examples of what I’ve done in the workplace in my assignments.

“The last four years have been a really good journey and I’ve developed so much – I’m much more confident now and feel equipped to move into a full-time job.

“If school doesn’t provide what you want there’s no point in doing subjects you’re not interested in – so look at college as it’ll give you the skills you need for the career you want in the future.”
