After finishing his A Levels 20-year-old Luke Perry decided to move on to an apprenticeship so he could get paid while learning.

The young engineer, who signed up for a Polymer apprenticeship with manufacturer’s John Guest, said: “I didn’t want to do four years of uni and not get paid.

“The apprenticeship has been really good and everyone has been very friendly. Everything I learnt has related to my work. The tutors have been very helpful and come down to London, where we are based, to help us with our NVQs.

“I’m now a technical engineer – and delighted to have got a job at the end of it all.”
