34-year-old Preeti Jhalli hopes to own her own bakery shop in the future and, thanks to the skills she’s learnt at college, has already launched her own business online.

After gaining Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas in professional bakery, Preeti is now studying for the Foundation Degree in Bakery and Patisserie Technology at the college’s Wellington Road campus.

Preeti said: “The course covers advanced bread making and patisserie skills, as well as wedding confectionery and, for an exam I had today, I made a two-tier wedding cake with a berry coulis filling, covered in a white chocolate ganache with handmade chocolate paste flowers and leaves – I’m really pleased with it!”
